Why freezers fail in Harare
Freezers in Harare have a hard life. My chest freezer is running but not freezing. What is wrong?+
The usual causes are a thermostat that is no longer calling for full cooling, a refrigerant leak, a weak compressor that is running but not pumping properly, or a lid gasket letting warm air in. The frost pattern on the inside walls tells our technician which it is within minutes.
Can you repair a freezer that is full of food?+
Usually yes. For electrical repairs the contents can stay in place. For a regas or compressor replacement the freezer is off for a few hours, and a closed chest freezer will hold its temperature for most of that time if the lid is kept shut.
Why does my freezer ice up so quickly?+
Warm, humid air is getting in. That points to a hardened or torn gasket, a lid that is not closing flat, or a door left ajar by packed stock. On frost free upright freezers it usually means the defrost heater, timer or sensor has failed.
