Side by side fridge repairs: what goes wrong
A side by side fridge has the freezer on the left and the fridge on the right, each usually with its own evaporator and fan on modern Samsung and LG models, or a single evaporator in the freezer with a fan and damper feeding the fridge on older designs. Either way, the symptom of one side failing while the other works is extremely common and points to the fan, damper or defrost system on the failed side rather than to the compressor or gas.
The ice maker and water dispenser add their own faults: an ice maker that stops producing or produces hollow cubes, a dispenser that drips or will not dispense, a frozen water line, and water leaking inside the fridge from a split tube. These are repairable, and are a reason not to let anyone talk you into replacing the whole fridge.
Side by sides also suffer from blocked condensers, because they are often built into cabinetry with little airflow. A condenser full of dust makes the compressor run hot and long, and eventually it fails. Cleaning the condenser is part of every side by side visit we do.

Side by side fridge repair questions
Why is only one side of my side by side fridge cold?+
Because the two sides are cooled separately, or by a fan and damper feeding one from the other. A failed fan, damper or defrost system stops cold reaching one side while the other carries on. It is a repairable fault and not a sign that the compressor has failed.
Can you repair the ice maker on my Samsung or LG side by side?+
Yes. Ice maker faults are usually the ice maker module, the water inlet valve, a frozen fill tube or a blocked filter. We diagnose which and repair or replace it on site.
Do I need to empty the fridge before you come?+
No. For most side by side repairs the food can stay in. If a repair needs the fridge off for a few hours we will tell you when we quote so you can move anything perishable.
