Cold room repairs: what goes wrong
A cold room is a refrigeration system in three parts: a condensing unit outside with the compressor, condenser and fan; an evaporator coil with fans inside the room; and the pipework, controls and door that connect them. A fault in any part raises the room temperature, and the symptom in the room rarely tells you which part has failed.
The faults we repair most are condensing unit problems in the heat of the day, from blocked condensers, failed condenser fan motors and tripped high pressure switches to contactor and compressor failures; evaporator problems such as fan motors that have failed and defrost systems that have iced the coil solid; controller and probe faults after power surges; and doors that no longer seal, letting in humid air that frosts the coil and floods the floor. Refrigerant leaks from vibration and corrosion are common on older rooms.

Cold room repair questions
My cold room is warm but the unit outside is running. What is wrong?+
The evaporator inside has probably iced up because the defrost has failed, an evaporator fan has stopped, or the system has lost refrigerant so the compressor runs without cooling. We check the coil, the fans and the pressures and tell you exactly which it is.
Why does my cold room floor have water or ice on it?+
Melt water from the evaporator is not draining, usually because the drain line or drain heater has failed, or humid air is getting in through a poor door seal and condensing on the floor. Both are repairable.
Can you repair the cold room at night or on a weekend?+
